We’ve spent this weekend in Harrogate, North Yorkshire at the annual Home & Gift trade fair. These trade shows give us the opportunity to meet and chat with the lovely people who stock our products all over the country and show them the new things we have planned for the upcoming months. This year was a particularly exciting show for us as it was the first time we had displayed the redesigned logo we created with the help of a calligrapher, which you can see for yourselves on our website and social media.
More exciting unveilings came in the form of Artistry Collection and Wild Things, our two completely new collections that will be hitting shops and our website in mid-August. Inspired by the art of fragrance and adventures amongst vibrant flora and fauna respectively, these are some of our most ambitious collections yet and ones of which we are hugely proud. We were thrilled with the enthusiastic response for the new products from visitors to our stand, hopefully you will feel the same way once they launch!
Epic rises in the sales of rosemary have been reported recently as exam-bound student turned to the brain-boosting powers of its scent for studying. But what other scents can energize your mind?
Lemon: The scent of lemon essential oil is perfect for soothing away exam stress and helping to clear your mind by reducing negative emotions. For students struggling to focus, its invigorating fragrance is also reported to improve concentration.
Thyme: Much like lemon, thyme is also a great stress reliever. The scent of this handy little herb will decrease your worries, allowing your mind to focus on more important things.
Grapefruit: Grapefruit helps fight against fatigue and boost your energy levels which can be a huge help to tired students bored by tedious revision or exhausted by long nights studying.
Black Pepper: Black pepper can give your memory a boost as it is known to help stimulate chemical pathways in the brain.
If you or someone you know needs a little extra brain power, lemon, thyme and rosemary are the main ingredients in our Focus My Mind essential oil blend, while Grapefruit and Black Pepper can be found in our Energise Me oil.
You probably don’t have the same colour walls in every room, or the same furniture in your bathroom and your living room, so it follows that using one fragrance throughout your home may not be the best approach. Much like with the décor in your home, taking the function of each room into account is helpful when picking home fragrance. You don’t use your kitchen and your bedroom for the same purpose, so the same fragrance won’t necessarily work in both.
Here are some of our tips and tricks for picking a beautiful fragrance to compliment every room, but keep in mind that there are no real rules when it comes to home fragrance!
Let’s start with the room where most of us begin our day. The bathroom is a place for cleaning and preparing yourself for the day ahead, so a fresh, revitalising scent like Pink Grapefruit or Sea Spray is a great accompaniment. Most of us won’t be spending a lot of time in the bathroom, so opt for the fuss-free but long lasting fragrance of Reed Diffusers.
Ideally you shouldn’t have a super strong fragrance in the kitchen as fragrance can often influence our sense of taste. You may only want to fragrance the room after cooking, in which case a Fragrance Lamp will help eliminate any unwanted food odours. On the other hand if you do want continuous fragrance in the background, a Reed Diffuser with only a few reeds to reduce the scent will add a little extra fragrance without becoming distracting.
The living room is often the main entertaining space in the home as well as a room in which plenty of your time is spent, pick a fragrance that matches your tastes and personality to tailor the space to you. To create ambience and mood it’s also a good idea to vary fragrances throughout the seasons, such as green florals for spring and spicy and warming scents in the winter.
Your bedroom is, most importantly, the place when you sleep, so steer clear of scents you find very invigorating. In the evening you can also use fragrance to enhance your sleep. Lavender aids relaxation and sleep so a few drops of Bedtime essential oil with lavender and sage in a Scent Hub can help you relax before bedtime.
As sunny weather starts to shine through the clouds, we begin spending a lot more time outdoors relaxing and enjoying the sunshine. With the sun comes a season of outside events, from garden parties and barbecues to outdoor weddings. Little details can that have an impressive effect on the atmosphere of any event and fragrance is hugely useful in creating the perfect ambience.
Scent is big part of memory, so fragrance can help to craft special memories of whatever you’re celebrating. Scent can also enhance a party’s theme, like pairing a beachy-inspired theme with a fresh, coastal scent like Sea Breeze or replicating a floral motif in a wedding bouquet or decorations in fragrance.
With their detailed, decorative design, Fragrance Lamps are a beautiful means of scenting events. Their incredible fragrance release makes them ideal for use in large venues. There are always plenty of things to worry about planning an event, but Fragrance Lamps are flameless and provide long-lasting scent for a stress-free fragrance solution.
With a large collection of Fragrance Lamp designs to see, you’re sure to find one to fit your event.
The ideal marriage of beauty and fragrance, decorative vases are paired with exquisite scents to create a simple, subtle ambience. Reed Diffusers are perfect for creating gorgeous (s)centerpieces or placing throughout an area to add extra touches of fragrance and decoration.
Sprinkle a little touch of subtle fragrance through an event by adding a few drops of Fragrance Oils to bowls of potpourri. You can use these oils by themselves or create your own bespoke scent cocktail by mixing a few together to find the perfect fragrance for your event.

Ashleigh & Burwood turns 24 this month, so we’ve taken a look back at some of the highlights of our history so far…
Spring Equinox at the start of this week means spring has officially begun and the days lengthen, the sun begins peeking out from behind the clouds and the first flower buds poke their heads out of the earth. This transition of the seasons also brings about a change in our homes as we seek to refresh them after the hibernation of the cosy winter season. While it may be a little early for a true spring clean, a simple way to brighten the home is by swapping warming, winter scents to fresher fragrances for the spring.
Below are our top choices for adding the scent of spring to your home:
Soft Cotton: The perfect soothingly fresh scent for the transition between winter cosiness and brighter spring weather.
Garden Mint: Spring is all about the re-emergence of nature after winter hibernation. Bring the outside in with this sweet, minty scent from our Country Garden collection, ideal for embracing the green trend in your home.
Wild Meadow: Inspired by the English countryside, Wild Meadow is a gloriously fresh floral accord that will evoke the lively nature of spring in your home.
Lavender: Our take on this classic scent incorporates peppermint and citrus notes for a fresh kick. Light up one of our Lavender Scented Candles in the evening to create an air of cleansing relaxation.
What scents do you use to refresh your home for spring?
According to Pantone’s Colour of the Year, green is the shade that will define 2017. Explaining their choice of colour, Pantone suggested that green reflects our growing desire for revitalisation in the face of a tumultuous 2016 and an effort to reconnect with the natural world as we become more dissatisfied with modern life. Green signifies freshness, growth and natural beauty, all things that we are yearning to bring into our homes in 2017.
The desire for connection with the simple, restorative beauty of the natural world is one we’ve embraced with our Country Garden theme for Spring/Summer 2017. The season’s story draws upon our English roots, taking inspiration from the sunny scents of a traditional English country garden in full bloom.
Green plays an important part in the theme, both in the collection’s visual inspiration and look and in the choice of fresher, more natural scents influenced by fragrant herbs and green foliage. This turn towards green fragrances is exemplified by one of the key scents for SS17, Garden Mint, a sunny fragrance evoking freshly-picked mint leaves. Alongside Garden Mint is a new Herb Garden Lamp Fragrance inspired by the fresh thyme and verbena scents of an English greenhouse. Even classic floral scents in the SS17 collection, like the new Tea Rose fragrance have been given an earthy twist with subtle green notes.
The lively freshness of green is also picked out in the colours of the new collection, from the resplendent tropical greens of the new Peacock Feather Fragrance Lamp (£28.95), to the cool mint shade peeking out from the Garden Mint Scented Candle (£17.95) and the soft pastel leaves decorating the Olive Branch Lamp Gift Set (£37.95).
